Sentient has its roots in October 2023, when Sreeram Kannan, founder of EigenLayer, facilitated the meeting between Sandeep Nailwal (co-founder of Polygon), Princeton professor Pramod Viswanath (co-inventor of Flash OFDM, base technology for 4G LTE networks) and professor Himanshu Tyagi from the Indian Institute of Science. Their research converged at the intersection between blockchain and decentralised artificial intelligence. In January 2024 the creation of Sentient Labs was formalised in the United Arab Emirates, establishing as its mission to build the first open-source and community-owned AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) platform.
The project began involving the community in May 2024 with the launch of the Dobby Fingerprint minting campaign, where users minted identity NFTs on the Polygon network as the first participation milestone in the ecosystem. In June, voting sessions began in Dobby Arena, allowing users to interact with Sentient's AI models and vote on responses to guide training. On 2nd July 2024, Sentient Labs announced a record seed round of 85 million dollars in the crypto AI space, led by Peter Thiel's Founders Fund, Pantera Capital and Framework Ventures, with plans to enter testnet phase during the third quarter of 2024.
In the first quarter of 2025 the public beta of Sentient Chat was launched as a universal access interface to the GRID, alongside the open-source publication of the ROMA (Recursive Open Meta-Agent) framework, which reached first place in open-source multi-model agent rankings, surpassing closed systems. By September 2025, the GRID's agent network operated simultaneously on six blockchains: Base, BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, Celo and Near, with more than 110 integrated partners.
The tokenisation process intensified between November 2025 and January 2026. From 17th to 29th November 2025 the registration period for the SENT airdrop opened, where participants linked accounts and completed identity verification through unique photo with zero-knowledge proof. On 18th November, SENT reached its all-time high of 0.07249 dollars in pre-TGE markets, and on 22nd November the Token Generation Event was executed at 12:15 UTC. In December 2025, Coinbase added SENT to its official listing roadmap after passing technical and compliance reviews.
On 16th January 2026, Sentient published the definitive tokenomics of SENT with a total supply of 34,360 million tokens: 44% for community incentives and airdrop, 22% for the team, 19.55% for ecosystem and R&D, 12.45% for investors and 2% in public sale. On 19th January the Binance Wallet Prime Sale took place, raising 7.6 million dollars, followed on 22nd January by the debut on Binance's spot market with the SENT/USDT, SENT/USDC and SENT/TRY pairs under Seed Tag, registering a 159% rise on its first day of trading. On 20th April 2026, on-chain data from Arkham Intelligence detected that a wallet linked to the team transferred 687 million SENT (9.5% of circulating supply, equivalent to 11.5 million dollars) to a new address, generating concern about possible selling pressure.
SENT operates as the native token of the Sentient ecosystem, an open-source artificial general intelligence platform that runs on Polygon CDK with EVM compatibility. The technical core is the GRID (Global Research and Intelligence Directory), a coordination network that interconnects more than 110 AI models, autonomous agents, data sources and specialised tools, collectively referred to as Artifacts. This infrastructure enables dispersed components to function as a unified distributed intelligence system, where users interact through Sentient Chat, an interface that orchestrates complex workflows by chaining multiple Artifacts according to received queries.
The SENT token articulates three economic mechanisms within the protocol. Builders who contribute high-utilisation Artifacts receive rewards proportional to the usage of their components, whilst community members can lock SENT to participate in contributor curation, determining which developers deserve greater rewards based on usage metrics, generated revenue and expert evaluations. Additionally, SENT holders participate in protocol governance through a DAO system. The tokenomics establish a maximum supply of 34,350 million units with an annual emission of 2% intended to reward continuous contributors to the GRID, distributed amongst community incentives and airdrop (44%), team (22%), ecosystem and R&D (19.55%), investors (12.45%) and public sale (2%).
